Why Minda Goldberg
All mediators attempt to maintain neutrality, but Minda Goldberg is widely perceived that way because of her unique ability to achieve a rapport not only with lawyers, but more importantly, with their clients. The parties to mediations conducted by Minda Goldberg universally feel they have a mediator who truly listens to their side of the matter and truly understands their viewpoint and the issues in dispute. The result is that each party is comfortable that his or her viewpoint is being fairly presented to the other side. This comfort level increases the chances of a mutually agreeable resolution because our experience shows that parties are more willing to resolve their disputes when they think their viewpoint has been fairly heard and fairly presented.
Minda Goldberg achieves this rapport as a result of both her experience and her mediation style. She is an experienced law school professor who teaches at both of Maryland’s law schools. She does not have a history of representing only plaintiffs or defendants or only businesses or individuals. Who the parties are does not affect her thinking. Rather, she is focused on a fair process that achieves a mutually agreeable result. Similarly, while she teaches legal advocacy, her classroom focus is on helping her students to advocate their side of the case more effectively by understanding both sides of the matter. She brings this same skill to her mediation efforts. Time and again, the parties to her mediations have said that they not only felt satisfied by the outcome, but just as importantly, that they felt fairly treated.
Because of her experience and her high degree of success in resolving the disputes that she hears, Minda Goldberg was selected by a joint program of the Circuit Courts of Baltimore County, Baltimore City and Howard County to serve as a mentor to new mediators and was invited by Baltimore City’s Circuit Court to hold settlement conferences on its behalf.
